Ushuaia Argentina

Ushuaia, which overlooks the emerald waters of the Beagle Channel, claims to be the southernmost city in the world and is the largest city in Argentine Tierra del Fuego. The beautiful town is nestled between the freezing waters of the Bay of Ushuaia and the snow-clad peaks behind. The snow-capped mountains are in view almost everywhere you look.Ushuaia is a good base from where to explore the surrounding beautiful scenery but there is also plenty to see in town. Parallel to the shoreline, Avenida San Martin is the main commercial street of the town and where everything is happening. It is a popular place for strolling, the street is lined with shops, cafes and restaurants. In the centre of Ushuaia you can see some interesting old houses built in the old colonial style, as well as the interesting Museo Del Fin Del Mundo, located in the Old House of Government. This museum presents the history of Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego including the history of the indigenous tribes that once inhabited this land. El Presidio is another popular attraction. The former prison of Ushuaia has been turned into a museum and an art gallery. Main attractions in Ushuaia are, however, on the dazzling outdoors, such as the Isla los Lobos, the penguin rookeries or the famous Martial glacier.Ushuaia is the gateway to Antarctica and the Tierra del Fuego National Park. It is a great place to view wildlife including penguins, dolphins, orcas, seals and a wide variety of birds. Ushuaia is where the world ends or where it starts.
